YS Sharmila, the daughter of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhra Reddy, has merged her party, YSRTP, with the Congress. This happened at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi, in the presence of Rahul Gandhi and AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge. Rahul Gandhi and Kharge offered Congress scarves to Sharmila and invited her to join the party.

Sharmila remembered her father and his dedication to the Congress. She mentioned that joining Congress would bring him great joy. Sharmila praised Congress as the largest secular party in India, which upholds the culture of the country and serves all communities.

As a Christian, Sharmila expressed her concern about the cruelty that took place in Manipur, where churches were vandalized and innocent people were displaced. She emphasized the importance of having a secular party in control at the Centre to prevent such incidents. Sharmila believes that Congress will protect the freedom of all sections of people.

Sharmila highlighted Rahul Gandhi’s successful Bharat Jodo Yatra, which led to victories in Karnataka and Telangana. She mentioned that YSRTP stayed away from the Telangana election to support the anti-KCR vote. Sharmila stated that her father always wanted Rahul Gandhi to become the Prime Minister.

When asked about her role in leading the party in Andhra Pradesh, Sharmila said she is willing to take up any responsibility given to her by the party. She mentioned that the party will decide her role within a couple of days.
