Ahead of the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh, there is a lot of focus on YS Sharmila, the daughter of late Chief Minister YS Rajshekhara Reddy and sister of current Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The Congress party is planning to bring Sharmila into the party to revive its presence in Andhra Pradesh. Following their recent victories in Karnataka and Telangana, the Congress party has invited Sharmila for talks. She will be meeting with AICC president Mallikarjuna Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and other leaders to discuss the merger of her party, YSRTP, with Congress. Sharmila’s entry into state politics has become a hot topic as elections are approaching.
It is still unclear what position Sharmila will be offered by the Congress high command if she joins the party. This has generated interest among politicians in Andhra Pradesh. There are reports that she may be given a post in AICC and become a Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka or the president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress party. However, it remains to be seen how Sharmila will impact Congress’ fortunes in Andhra Pradesh.
In the meantime, Sharmila and her family visited the residence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy. They handed over a wedding invitation to Jagan and Bharati, and Sharmila mentioned that her brother has responded positively to the invitation. The meeting was reported to be devoid of any political discussions.
Additionally, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will be meeting with former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday. While it is described as a courtesy call, there is political significance to the meeting ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in Telangana as well.
