Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy claimed that 25 BRS MLAs would join the Congress party after the Lok Sabha results are announced. This has sparked discussions within the party as leaders wonder if those coming from other parties may switch loyalties.
There has been a back-and-forth between Congress and BRS leaders regarding MLAs considering shifting loyalties after the Lok Sabha elections. BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao stated that a senior leader who left the party wanted to return, along with 20 MLAs looking to join BRS. In response, Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said only two BRS seats are expected in the State, and 25 MLAs from that party are eyeing a switch to Congress on June 5, the day after election results.
The speculation within the party revolves around which members may be interested in joining Congress. A senior party leader mentioned that BRS leaders would be cautious about changing loyalties, depending on the Lok Sabha election outcome. If the party secures more than six seats, it’s unlikely for MLAs to leave. However, poor performance could increase the chances of defection.
A former MLC suggested that leaders originally from TRS/BRS might stay loyal, while those who joined from other parties could be more inclined to leave. For instance, leaders like A Indrakaran Reddy, who switched from BSP (originally from Congress), have left the party. The BRS leader noted that many members joined from Congress and Telugu Desam, potentially considering a shift in allegiance.
BRS suffered a defeat in the Assembly elections, winning only 39 seats. Three MLAs have already joined Congress, none of whom were originally from TRS/BRS. Leaders with ties to Congress and TDP are being watched closely for possible loyalty shifts.
