Wanaparthy District, Telangana: Local leaders and officials gathered on the occasion of Republic Day to participate in a Gram Sabha (village assembly) held in Salkalapur village, Ghanpur mandal. Chief guests included legislator Thudi Megha Reddy, Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi, and District Collector Adarsh Surabhi. The meeting was part of a state-wide initiative to address public concerns and ensure fair access to government welfare schemes.

Speaking at the event, officials emphasized the importance of ensuring that only eligible beneficiaries receive government schemes. The Gram Sabha was organized to identify those who have been left out or whose names are missing from the beneficiary lists. Applications for various schemes were publicly read out, and villagers were encouraged to report ineligible names or apply if they were eligible but not listed. Additionally, officials assured that negligence by authorities in updating the lists would lead to accountability measures.

Highlighting the region’s progress, leaders noted that the area, once known for migration, is now fertile due to the Mahatma Gandhi Kalvakurthi Lift Irrigation Scheme. They also announced that ₹175 crores had been allocated for Indiramma houses in Wanaparthy district. Citizens were advised to avoid unnecessary expenses and prioritize nutritious food and exercise for better health. Parents were encouraged to enroll their children in government schools, which provide quality education.

Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi likened the Gram Sabha to a traditional public court, where injustices are addressed transparently. He explained that the lists of beneficiaries for schemes like Indiramma Atmiya Bharosa, Rythu Bharosa, ration cards, and housing are being reviewed with public input. Those who are eligible but excluded were asked to submit applications, while ineligible names would be removed.

The MP also elaborated on the Indiramma Atmiya Bharosa scheme, which aims to provide ₹12,000 annually to landless laborers. He highlighted several guarantees fulfilled by the government, including free bus travel for women, enhanced Arogya Sri health coverage (from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh), free electricity up to 200 units, and subsidized gas cylinders. He revealed plans for a new industry in the Nagarkurnool constituency, following an agreement signed by the Chief Minister in Davos. Additionally, he promised to establish a bank and skill training center to meet local needs.

Legislator Thudi Megha Reddy noted that the Congress party had gained power based on six guarantees given to the people, many of which have already been fulfilled. He mentioned that four new welfare schemes would be launched on January 26, and fine rice distribution on ration cards would commence by Ugadi. He assured that ration cards would be issued to all eligible households and promised to make Salkalapur an ideal village.

The local leaders also requested the sanctioning of a ₹1 crore green hotel to promote tourism in the Mangomada reservoir area. They urged MPs to support the establishment of a bank and skill center for the benefit of the region.

District Collector Adarsh Surabhi explained that the Gram Sabha’s purpose was to finalize lists for four welfare schemes. He announced that 300 farmers in Salkalapur had received ₹1.94 crores in loan waivers and that ₹12,000 per acre per year would be provided under Rythu Bharosa for cultivable land. Villagers were reminded that the current beneficiary list is not final, and those left out could still apply.

The event saw participation from Additional Collector Sanchit Gangwar, RDO Subramaniam, Special Officer Sudheer Reddy, Tehsildar, MPDO, and other officials, along with local representatives and the public.
