Warangal Sees 3.21% Drop in Crime Rate in 2024

The crime rate in 2024 decreased by 3.21% compared to last year, according to Warangal Police Commissioner Amber Kishore Jha. He announced the statistics during a media briefing at the Police Commissionerate office in Hanumakonda on Saturday.

A total of 14,406 cases were registered this year, marking a significant drop in crime. Commissioner Jha revealed that murder cases decreased by 16.67%, and property crimes fell by 2.3%. The police also managed to recover stolen property worth ₹11.81 crore. Notably, 18 interstate thieves from different states were arrested during the year.

Crimes against women saw an 11% reduction, while fraud cases dropped by 16% and kidnapping cases by 7.45%. Commissioner Jha credited special measures implemented by the police for these improvements. Road accidents also declined, with 1,434 cases recorded this year compared to 1,558 last year. Fatalities from road accidents dropped by 12.3%, with 417 deaths reported in 2024 compared to 499 in 2023.

In the area of cybercrimes, 772 cases were registered, and the police successfully recovered ₹1.3 crore from cybercriminals. The Warangal police also made strides in combating drug-related crimes, seizing marijuana worth ₹2.63 crore in 147 cases and arresting 321 individuals involved in drug activities.

Additionally, the police achieved a 42% increase in convictions, with 2,462 individuals convicted this year. Commissioner Jha attributed this to skilled investigations and the effective presentation of evidence in courts.

The media briefing was attended by several senior officers, including East Zone DCP Ravinder, ASP Manan Bhat, Additional DCP Ravi, ACPs Jitender Reddy and David Raju, as well as Inspectors Srinivas and Karunakar.
