On International Youth Day, Vedanta Aluminium is expanding its skill training programs for youth in rural India. The company aims to create more opportunities for sustainable livelihoods and employment. This initiative also allows rural youth to contribute to the progress of the nation.
Recently, Vedanta Aluminium partnered with the Skill Development Institute in Bhubaneswar to launch a new skill development program. The program focuses on training rural youth in market-relevant skills. The first batch of students is currently undergoing training as Industrial Electricians. Now, the program has been expanded to include training in Industrial Welding. Around 40 youths from the vicinity of the company’s operations in Sundargarh, Odisha are participating in these trainings.
Dilip Kumar Gardia, a participant in the skill development initiative, expressed gratitude towards Vedanta for empowering him with technical skills. He believes that these programs not only benefit individuals but also drive growth and progress within their communities.
Furthermore, Vedanta Aluminium will soon be inducting the second batch of trainees under its project Sakhyam, a drivers’ training program. The company is collaborating with the Society for Government of Odisha – Ashok Leyland HMV Driver Training Institute to provide training in operating Heavy Motor Vehicles & Light Motor Vehicles. The program will now also include Forklift Operations, a critical skill for manufacturing plants. In a groundbreaking move, the second batch will also include women and transgender professionals, promoting diversity and inclusion in the manufacturing industry.
Vedanta Aluminium’s developmental efforts in education, healthcare, livelihood, skill development, and grassroots sports, art & culture continue to benefit rural communities in India. They have trained around 15,000 youths through their skill development initiatives. These initiatives include programs such as the Subhalaxmi Self Help Group (SHG) Co-operative in Jharsuguda, Odisha, support for traditional artisans, and training farmers in sustainable farming techniques. Vedanta Aluminium actively contributes to increased entrepreneurship, sustainable economic development, and vibrant local economies across the country.
