Upgradation works at Secunderabad railway station are progressing rapidly

The redevelopment of the Secunderabad railway station, which costs Rs 700 crore, is progressing as scheduled. Most of the foundation work for various world-class amenities on both sides of platforms 1 and 10 has been completed, according to SCR general manager Arun Kumar Jain.

On the south side, almost 80% of the construction related to foundations has been finished. The basement 1 slab work is 80% complete and the basement 2 slab work is 60% complete. The ground floor on the south side will be the drop-off zone for departing passengers, while basement 1 will be the pick-up zone for arriving passengers. Basement 2 will provide parking for around 200 cars. To ensure smooth movement of vehicles and completion of the remaining work, a temporary road has been opened on the south side of the existing building.

The existing building on the south side will be expanded and a new modern building will be added. Around 45% of the foundation work, 45% of the columns work, and almost 30% of the ground floor slab work for the new building has been completed. Two substations with a capacity of 33 KV will replace the existing 11 KV substations to meet the station’s demands. Work has already begun on one 33 KV substation on the south side.

On the north side, construction of a multi-level car parking facility is underway. The redeveloped station will have a six-floor car park. Currently, more than 50% of the foundation work, columns, and ground floor slab for the car park have been completed. Utility shifting for 25% of the station building on the north side has also been completed to facilitate the redevelopment works. Construction has started on a new foot over bridge towards Kazipet-end, with foundation work completed on two platforms and ongoing work on other platforms, according to a senior SCR officer.
