University of Hyderabad students begin indefinite strike

Hyderabad: Students at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) began an indefinite strike and stopped attending classes on Tuesday. They are protesting the state government’s decision to auction 400 acres of land that the students believe belongs to the university. According to them, selling this land would harm the university’s future and development.

The students also worry that the auction will damage the environment and local ecology. In a list of demands, they asked for the removal of police personnel and construction machines (like JCBs) from the campus. They also want a written promise that the land will be officially registered under the university’s name.

Additionally, the students are asking for more transparency. They demanded the release of the minutes from the executive committee meeting where the land issue was discussed, along with all related documents.

As part of their protest, the students held a rally on campus and organized a ‘Seva Yatra’. They criticized the police for their strong presence in and around the university, saying it was stopping students from moving around freely.
