A man was arrested outside Buckingham Palace in London on Tuesday after he threw what appeared to be shotgun cartridges into the palace grounds. The man was found with a knife but did not possess a firearm. He was arrested on suspicion of carrying an offensive weapon and was detained under the Mental Health Act on Wednesday. The police conducted a controlled explosion as a precaution, but there were no injuries reported. The incident is not believed to be terror-related. King Charles III was not in the palace at the time of the incident.
The Met Police has deployed 29,000 officers for the historic coronation of King Charles III, which will take place on May 6.
