The police noticed two men on a motorcycle acting suspiciously. When the police tried to stop them, the men attempted to flee, but the officers chased and caught them. The two men were identified as Mohammed Afsar and Gundamalla Venkateswarlu.
During interrogation, the men admitted to being involved in past extortion cases in the areas of Mahabubabad, Garla, Maripeda, and Kesamudram. They revealed that they wanted to make easy money to pay off their debts. They teamed up with another person named Md Riyaz to carry out their plan.
The police explained that Riyaz had been sent to Bihar to purchase weapons. He returned with three 7 mm pistols, four magazines, and 17 bullets. The group planned to use these weapons to extort money from granite factory owners.
