The government will offer a subsidy of Rs 52,000 per acre to encourage farmers to switch to oil palm cultivation, announced Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao. He highlighted that oil palm farming can yield more profit than traditional crops like chilli, cotton, and rice. Additionally, farmers can generate income from growing vegetables and other intercrops during the first three years.

Road Development Projects in Khammam

Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao visited the 15th division of Khammam city on Monday to lay the foundation stone for three major road construction projects. These projects, undertaken at a cost of Rs 8.45 crore, will improve connectivity from Allipur to Ramakrishnapuram, Allipur to Jangala Colony, and Allipur NTR Statue to Dhamsalapuram.

He assured residents that BT road construction will begin after the relocation of electricity poles in the area. The minister emphasized the need for durable roadwork that would last for 10 years and instructed the removal of ramps on the roads.

Focus on Welfare Schemes for Farmers

Tummala stressed that government welfare schemes should reach only the truly eligible beneficiaries. He urged authorities to ensure that these programs are not extended to ineligible individuals, as this could hinder development efforts.

The government has allocated over Rs 40,000 crore for the welfare of farmers, the minister stated. Under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, financial assistance of Rs 12,000 per acre is being provided, while support for non-cultivated lands is being discontinued. Additionally, Rs 10,000 crore has been allocated for Rythu Bharosa, Rs 21,000 crore for loan waivers, and Rs 3,000 crore for the Rythu Bima initiative.

Development of Urban Parks and Housing Projects

The minister highlighted the government’s commitment to urban development, including the Velugumatla Urban Park project. Plastic use has been banned in the park as part of environmental conservation efforts.

He also mentioned that Rs 25,000 crore is required for the Indiramma Housing Scheme, underscoring the government’s focus on addressing housing needs.

Participation of Officials and Leaders

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including State Warehousing Corporation Chairman Rayala Nageshwar Rao, City Mayor Punukollu Neeraja, and Revenue Division Officer Narasimha Rao, among others. Their participation reflected the collective efforts of various departments to support development in Khammam.
