The state government is working to get national project status for the Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS). They have sent the project report to the Union Jal Shakti Ministry and are waiting for approval, which is expected in about a week or 10 days. Once approved, the government will seek funds under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) and continue with the project. The State Irrigation Secretary has been in touch with Central authorities to secure funds quickly.
The Chief Minister’s meeting with the Prime Minister helped bring attention to the project, which was previously facing legal hurdles. Now, the government is focused on completing major works related to irrigation in the Ranga Reddy, Mahbubnagar, and Nalgonda districts. They have prepared an error-free project report to ensure a smooth approval process. The Chief Minister aims to complete the project on time and has already obtained necessary approvals for Central funds.
The government’s main challenge is addressing legal issues, but they are also considering naming the project after senior Congress leader Jaipal Reddy, who is related to the Chief Minister and from Palamuru district. The government plans to allocate funds for the project in the 2024-2025 budget and make important decisions for its implementation before obtaining national project status.
