TS faces decision point in NEP implementation.

Uncertainty continues in Telangana regarding the implementation of the New Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020), even four years after its notification. The University Grants Commission (UGC), All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) have been working to implement the new policy, but Telangana has yet to make a decision.

Many other states have already begun implementing the new initiatives of the higher education regulators, affecting institutions in various fields. Delaying the decision on NEP-2020 could impact students and their educational opportunities. The State government needs to make a decision soon, according to professors from Osmania University.

A senior official from the State Higher Education Department mentioned that the file related to NEP-2020 has been under review by the State government for several years. Initially, there was opposition to the policy, but steps have been taken to implement some of its components.

The recent announcement by the State government to appoint a commission on education has caused further delays, according to academics. There have been numerous education commissions appointed over the years, providing enough data to compare with NEP-2020 and make informed decisions.

With only two months left before the new academic year begins, Telangana faces uncertainty about NEP-2020. Significant changes, such as transforming agricultural universities into multi-disciplinary universities and overhauling the regulatory system, are on the horizon. This includes the formation of a new Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) to bring all regulatory frameworks under one umbrella.
