The long-standing dispute over Krishna water between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is going to be resolved soon. The Union Cabinet has approved the terms of reference for the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II (KWDT-II). This decision by the Centre will help settle the water dispute between the two states through the tribunal.

In addition to this, the Cabinet has also given approval for the establishment of Sammakka Sarakka Tribal University and the National Turmeric Board in Nizamabad. The referral of the water-sharing issue to the tribunal was made by the Centre after seeking legal opinion. Resolving the dispute will create new opportunities for growth in both states and benefit the people, ultimately contributing to a stronger country.

Finance Minister T Harish Rao mentioned that the Centre’s decision to resolve the water-sharing issues was a result of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s continuous efforts through legal battles and mounting pressure on the Centre. As per the Centre’s assurance, the State government has withdrawn the petition in the Supreme Court regarding the pending Krishna water-sharing dispute.

The Cabinet has also approved the establishment of a Tribal University in Mulugu district, which will cost around Rs 900 crore. This decision was made following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement and is in accordance with the AP Reorganisation Act.

Furthermore, the National Turmeric Board will focus on the development and growth of turmeric and turmeric products in the country. It will provide leadership in turmeric-related matters and promote coordination with the Spices Board and other government agencies. The board will also ensure adherence to quality and food safety standards, as well as make efforts to fully utilize turmeric’s potential.
