Tribals panic after calf killed in cheetah attack

A calf was killed in a leopard attack in Bijinapalli mandal of Nagar Kurnool district. On the night of the 7th of this month, a farmer named Bhimudu tied the calf and cows in the crop fields near Vasramtanda near Gangaram forest area, but the calf was missing the next morning.

The farmer found the calf carcass in a nearby forest area and immediately informed the forest department officials. Forest department officers inspected the incident site and confirmed signs of a leopard attack. They assured the farmer that compensation would be provided. The Forest Range Officer advised farmers not to keep their cattle, sheep, and goats in the fields at night because leopards are known to come to the Gangaram forest area for water.

There are three solar boreholes near Gangaram forest area that provide water, leading to an increase in the number of deer in the area. Cheetahs have been seen roaming in nearby fields, but officials urge residents not to be afraid. They emphasized that incidents like these occur because domestic animals are tied up in fields to prevent them from wandering into the wild. Officials warned of strict action against anyone harming wild animals and encouraged reporting any information about leopards to the forest department.
