Tree Collapse Claims Life as Mumbai’s Andheri Subway Shuts Down Due to Torrential Rainfall

0

Heavy rains in Mumbai on Wednesday caused waterlogging and the closure of the Andheri subway. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported a tree collapse incident in Malad that resulted in a man’s death. Train traffic on the Central and Western Railway routes was mostly normal, with minor delays. Due to the accumulation of water, the Andheri subway was closed and traffic was diverted. Buses on three routes were also diverted in Dahisar East. In the past 24 hours, there were several incidents of tree fall, short-circuits, and house collapse. Thane city also experienced waterlogging and incidents of wall and house collapse. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted more showers in Mumbai. A man named Kaushal Doshi was fatally injured in a tree fall in Malad. The island city, eastern suburbs, and western suburbs received varying amounts of rainfall. Municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal and other officials assessed the situation at various locations in Mumbai. Despite heavy rains, the BMC will implement a 10% water cut from July 1 due to low water levels in the city’s lakes.
