Thirty-nine transgender individuals in Hyderabad have been appointed as Traffic Assistants and will officially begin their duties tomorrow. This initiative is a significant step toward integrating the transgender community into mainstream professions and promoting inclusivity in public services.
The announcement was made after a demonstration program held at the Integrated Command Control Center (ICCC) on Sunday. During the event, the newly trained Traffic Assistants showcased their skills in the presence of Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand.
These Traffic Assistants will be stationed at various junctions across the city. Their responsibilities include managing vehicular movement, ensuring road safety, and addressing traffic-related issues. Their inclusion in the workforce is seen as a milestone in providing opportunities and promoting equality for marginalized communities.
Commissioner C.V. Anand praised the dedication and commitment of the transgender recruits. He stated, “This initiative reflects our commitment to building an inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to contribute and excel.”
The program has received widespread support from citizens and activists alike. Many have applauded the Hyderabad Police for taking a progressive step toward inclusivity. The transgender Traffic Assistants underwent rigorous training to prepare for their roles, and their involvement is expected to positively impact traffic management in the city.
This is the first time transgender individuals are being deployed as Traffic Assistants in Hyderabad. The initiative sets a benchmark for other cities to follow and highlights Hyderabad’s forward-thinking approach to equality and diversity. It is hoped that this move will pave the way for greater acceptance and integration of marginalized communities in other sectors as well.
