The University Grants Commission (UGC) has started training for non-teaching staff from 45 Central universities in partnership with the Capacity Building Commission (CBC). The goal is to train 5,000 employees in the first phase.

The training will focus on improving the skills and abilities of non-teaching staff in Central universities. Topics covered include psychology in workflow, technology usage, understanding the higher education ecosystem, managing academics, finances, and project management.

Employees are asked to complete courses on the iGot Karmayogi platform within four months and will receive certificates upon completion. The CBC aims to enhance government employees’ skills through the ‘Mission Karmayogi’.

UGC conducted assessments in 2023 to identify capacity needs and developed training programmes to address competency gaps. Over 635 UGC employees have completed around 5,480 courses on the Karmayogi platform since October 2023.

The platform offers various courses on topics like emerging technologies, data-driven decision making, yoga at workplace, Microsoft Excel, RTI Act, and communication skills. The UGC plans to expand this training programme to Central universities based on its success in developing staff capacity.
