Hyderabad New Year's Traffic Restrictions and Guidelines
The Cyberabad Traffic Police have issued restrictions and guidelines for public safety during New Year celebrations on December 31. These measures aim to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent accidents.
From 10 PM to 5 AM, the Nehru Outer Ring Road will be closed for light motor vehicles, except those heading toward the airport. Similarly, the PVNR Expressway will only allow vehicles bound for the airport during the same time period.
Drivers of cabs, taxis, and auto-rickshaws must wear proper uniforms and carry all necessary documents. Refusing to provide a ride on hire is a violation of Section 178 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and will result in a fine of ₹500 through an e-challan. Passengers can report such refusals by sending vehicle details, time, and location via WhatsApp to 9490617346. Drivers are also warned against misbehaving with passengers or demanding excessive fares.
Bars, pubs, and clubs are instructed to prevent their patrons from driving under the influence of alcohol. Management of these establishments will face legal action if they allow intoxicated individuals to drive from their premises. They are encouraged to educate their customers about the consequences of drunk driving and arrange alternative travel options for them.
To enhance enforcement, special cameras have been installed to monitor violations such as wrong-side driving, unauthorized parking, overspeeding, signal jumping, rash driving, and riding without a helmet. Violators identified through these cameras will face strict action.
Additionally, extensive drunk driving checks will be conducted across all roads under the Cyberabad limits starting at 8 PM on New Year’s Eve. Residents are urged to follow the rules and cooperate with the police to ensure a safe and incident-free celebration.
