TPCC prepares for restructuring ahead of local body elections

Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress leadership is speeding up the process of forming a new Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) body. This reorganization is expected to happen before the Sankranti festival. The latest list of proposed members has already been sent to the party’s High Command for approval, with special focus on including leaders from BC (Backward Classes), SC (Scheduled Castes), and ST (Scheduled Tribes) communities.

The urgency behind this move is to quickly spread awareness about the implementation of various schemes and guarantees promised during the elections. Party sources revealed that the recommended list considers caste and social dynamics at the local level. The names have been reviewed and approved by District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents, district in-charge ministers, and other local representatives. The State Congress leadership has emphasized that individuals who have worked hard for the party will be given priority, although many aspirants are actively lobbying for positions.

The previous PCC committee, led by former chief A. Revanth Reddy, received approval from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in December 2022, over a year after his appointment. That committee included an executive body of 40 members, a 22-member Political Affairs Committee (PAC), and additional posts such as 26 DCC presidents, 24 vice presidents, and 82 general secretaries. Revanth Reddy chaired the executive committee, while the PAC was headed by the AICC’s Telangana in-charge at the time.

Under the current PCC president, B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, the new committee is expected to be smaller, with about half the number of functionaries compared to Revanth Reddy’s tenure. This is because the Congress is now in power in the state. Recently, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and AICC Telangana in-charge Deepa Dasmunshi held detailed discussions with B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, leading to some adjustments in the proposed list. Once the High Command approves the proposals, the State leadership will formally announce the new PCC body.
