Torrential Rainfall Causes Major Train Service Disruptions

Hyderabad: Continuous heavy rains in the two Telugu states have caused flooding and damage to several railway tracks in the South Central Railway (SCR) network. This has led to many trains being canceled or their routes being changed.

The tracks between Kesamudram-Intikanne, Tadla Pusapalli-Mahabubabad, and Rayanapdu railway stations have been submerged, leading to the cancellation or diversion of several train services. On the Vijayawada–Kazipet route alone, around 177 trains were canceled over the last two days. Additionally, nine trains were partially canceled and 103 trains were rerouted to avoid delays in the affected areas.

Passengers on some of the halted trains have faced difficulties. To help, the South Central Railways has set up Help Lines at major stations like Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Kazipet, Warangal, Khammam, Vijayawada, and others. These Help Lines are providing information about the current status of train services.

Arun Kumar Jain, the General Manager of South Central Railway, is closely monitoring the situation. He is in regular contact with the Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) to assess the ground situation. Emergency Control Rooms have been established at SCR Headquarters in Secunderabad and at the divisional offices in Secunderabad, Guntur, and Vijayawada. These control rooms are staffed around the clock by senior officers. The SCR is also working closely with local state government officials to stay updated on weather forecasts and floodwater levels.
