Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha Shobhan Reddy and her husband Shobhan Reddy, the BRS Trade Union Cell president, will officially join the Congress party on Sunday. This move is part of a trend of many people switching to the ruling Congress party in an attempt to weaken the BRS in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The Mothe family, who are seeking a Lok Sabha ticket from Congress for Secunderabad, have the support of former Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin, who recently joined the Congress as well. The couple became disenchanted with the BRS after being denied a ticket for the Assembly polls from the Malkajgiri constituency.
Despite their efforts to reconcile with BRS Chief K Chandrashekar Rao, the couple’s attempts were unsuccessful. They even alleged that KCR did not meet them despite having an appointment, leading to their decision to leave the party.
This rift became more apparent when Srilatha did not attend an emergency meeting of Corporators called by BRS working president KT Rama Rao on February 10. It is believed that many other Corporators who were hoping for important positions or had experienced power while in BRS may also switch to Congress in the near future.
