Today, the BRS party is set to move an adjournment motion in Parliament, demanding the tabling and passing of the Women’s Reservation Bill. The BRS floor leader, Nama Nageswara Rao, will be presenting the motion in Lok Sabha. In addition to this, the MPs will also request an all-party meeting to discuss the bill.
This is not the first time that the BRS party has taken action to support the Women’s Reservation Bill. Earlier this month, MLC Kavitha from the BRS party sat on a day-long protest at Jantar Mantar, demanding the introduction of the bill. Additionally, Bharat Jagruthi, led by MLC Kavitha, organized a round table conference in New Delhi that saw participation from over 15 political parties, civil society organizations, and the student community.
To further their demand for the Women’s Reservation Bill, MLC Kavitha led Bharat Jagruthi will soon be launching a ‘Missed Call Campaign’. Along with this campaign, there will also be round table discussions in colleges and universities across India to discuss the need for tabling and passing the bill.
The Women’s Reservation Bill aims to reserve one-third of all seats in Parliament and state legislative assemblies for women. The bill has been pending for over a decade and has faced opposition from various political parties. However, supporters believe that it is a crucial step towards achieving gender equality in politics and society.
