Today, a 150-km pipeline will be laid to address water issues in the city.

A new drinking water supply scheme is being proposed in Kothagudem to address the shortage of water for residents in the municipality and surrounding areas. Currently, water is supplied from Kinnerasani reservoir in Paloncha mandal to the town, but frequent repairs to pipelines often disrupt the supply. To solve this problem, a new water supply system costing Rs.124.48 crore is planned.

Kothagudem MLA K Sambasiva Rao shared that a 150-km long pipeline will be laid from Kinnerasani to Kothagudem as part of the new system. The Central government will contribute 60 percent of the funds, the State government 30 percent, and the municipal funds will cover the remaining 10 percent. A water treatment plant at Yellandu crossroads will treat 2.65 lakh litres of water daily, which will be supplied to overhead tanks and then to houses.

Different tanks with capacities of 20 lakh litres, 10 lakh litres, and eight lakh litres will be built in Patha Kothagudem, Vishwanath Colony, and Ramavaram respectively. During the construction of the new pipelines, repairs and leaks in old pipelines will also be addressed to ensure quality work. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and other ministers are set to lay the foundation stone for the water scheme.

Additionally, drainage construction is planned in front of St. Mary’s High School, Head Post Office Centre, and GV Mall areas with Rs.4 crore allocated for the project. The drains are designed to direct rainwater into the Godumavagu stream for proper drainage.
