Khammam now has three new tennis courts at Sardar Patel Stadium. The courts will be inaugurated on Saturday and will be able to host national-level tennis tournaments. Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar provided Rs 93 lakh for the construction of the courts. The Sports Authority of Telangana State funded 9.5 lakh for their development.
The tennis courts are part of a larger sports complex at Sardar Patel Stadium. The district youth and sports officer, M Parandhama Reddy, stated that the courts and other facilities are completed, including a spectator gallery, washrooms, and flood lighting.
According to All India Tennis Association norms, a city must have at least three tennis courts with national standards in a sports complex to host a national-level tennis tournament. The availability of these courts now means that Khammam can host such tournaments.
Approximately 40 trained tennis players are in the city, and a certified coach, Kailash, is available to train them. All arrangements, such as dressing rooms, locker rooms, and washrooms, will be made in a lavish manner.
The government has been supporting sports and games, according to Minister Ajay Kumar. Sardar Patel Stadium is equipped with the latest technology for local athletes to train and perform at state and national competitions.
