The indiscriminate sale of antibiotics by unqualified individuals can have harmful effects on the health of rural populations, leading to the development of antimicrobial resistance. The presence of steroids at the quack clinics was also noted by V B Kamalasan Reddy, the director general of the Drug Control Administration. Misuse of steroids can result in various health issues such as immune system suppression, hormonal imbalances, muscle and bone weakness, cardiovascular problems, and psychological effects.
