Indian boxers Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain both claimed gold medals at the World Boxing Championships held in New Delhi. Zareen defeated Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam in the light flyweight category, winning by a unanimous 5-0 decision. This was Zareen’s second World title, having won the 52kg title last year. Borgohain broke her ‘bronze jinx’ by winning her first World title, defeating Australia’s Caitlin Parker 5-2 in the welterweight category. India matched their best-ever performance in terms of gold medals, with Nitu Ghanghas and Saweety Boora also winning gold medals in their respective weight categories on Saturday. The country’s best ever performance was in 2006, when they won four gold medals and a total of eight medals, including a silver.
