Hyderabad: The Telangana State Minorities Finance Corporation (TGMFC) is planning to introduce new welfare schemes for the betterment of minorities in the state. The government has allocated Rs 432 crore for this purpose.

On Monday, TGMFC Chairman Mohd Obedulla Kothwal mentioned that in the last 10 years, only Rs 300 crore were released for minority welfare. However, the current Congress government has allocated over Rs 400 crore for the financial year 2024-2025.

During a meeting, the Chairman shared that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is expected to announce loans and other schemes for minorities on November 11, which is Minorities Welfare Day. These schemes will focus on areas like women empowerment, bank-linked subsidies, training and employment, vocational training, and computer education. The specific criteria for these schemes are still being finalized.

As part of women empowerment, the Corporation plans to distribute sewing machines to 10,000 women in Telangana. Additionally, financial assistance will be provided to families affected by the Musi River Development project to help them rebuild their businesses and livelihoods. The process of identifying beneficiaries is underway.

Kothwal also mentioned that a meeting was held with representatives of the TGMFCS Minorities Community Garments Production and Training centers. The focus of the meeting was on the stitching of student uniforms for TGMREIS Residential Schools and Junior Colleges.

NGOs involved in the meeting requested new computerised embroidery and overlock machines to help with the stitching of uniforms. They also proposed increasing the per uniform rate from Rs 75 to Rs 100. The Chairman assured that new machines would be provided to each center, and orders from the schools and colleges would be allocated accordingly.

A Kanthi Wesley IAS, VC & Managing Director of TGMFC, along with R Ravi, Addl. Secretary of the Finance Department, and other officials, were present at the meeting.
