Hyderabad: A workshop on quantum computing and its applications was held on Tuesday. The event was organised by the Telangana State Council for Science and Technology (TGCOST) in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics at JNTUH College of Engineering.
During the workshop, students learned about the uses and significance of quantum computing. They were introduced to concepts like cryptography and how quantum computers can solve complex mathematical problems that traditional computers struggle with.
JNTUH registrar, Professor Venkateswara Rao, explained that quantum computing is based on modern physics and mathematics, specifically quantum mechanics. This branch of science studies the behavior of atoms and molecules.
He emphasized that a deeper understanding of quantum computing could lead to the development of quantum computers, which are faster and more efficient than classical computers. These advancements will be crucial in the future as the demand for faster calculations grows.
Professor Padmavathi, the vice principal of Engineering College, also highlighted the importance of mathematics. She said that students who excel in mathematics will do well in other subjects too, as it is a fundamental part of the basic sciences.
