Hyderabad: All Indians in Thailand are reported to be safe after a strong earthquake hit Bangkok and other parts of the country. The Indian Embassy in Thailand is keeping a close watch on the situation. So far, no Indian citizens have been harmed.

Many tourists from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh visit Thailand. Because of this, the tourism departments from both states have contacted the Indian Embassy to check on the safety of people from their regions.

The family of Congress MLA Makhan Singh Raj Thakur had a close call during the earthquake while vacationing in Bangkok. However, sources say the Ramagundam MLA’s family is safe.

At this point, there is no exact information on how many tourists from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are in Thailand.

Thai authorities have shared an emergency contact number, +66 618819218, which is available 24/7. Indian citizens needing help are advised to call this number. The Indian Embassy in Bangkok and the Consulate in Chiang Mai have confirmed that all their staff members are safe. They continue to work with local officials to monitor the situation and offer assistance.

Travel agents say around two million Indians visited Thailand last year, with Bangkok being one of the top destinations.

In January alone, over 1.85 lakh Indians traveled to Thailand. Thanks to low-cost travel packages and short flight times, Thailand remains a popular vacation spot. Tour packages start at around Rs 59,000 per person for a six-day trip.
