Telangana to Provide Internet to 9.3 Million Homes Under T-Fiber Project

The Telangana government is working on a major project to bring internet access to 9.3 million households across the state. This initiative, called the T-Fiber project, was announced by IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu during a meeting with a World Bank delegation on Wednesday.

Minister Sridhar Babu said that Telangana is about to experience a “digital revolution.” The project aims to provide every home with high-speed internet, making digital access easier for people. The state has already built a 32,000-km fiber-optic network, putting Telangana ahead in India’s digital growth. The government plans to expand this initiative and ensure that all villages in the state get internet access within the next three years.

As part of a test run, four villages—Hajipally (Ranga Reddy), Maddur (Narayanpet), Sangupet (Sangareddy), and Adavi Srirampur (Peddapalli)—have already been connected to the internet. These villages serve as examples of how digital access can benefit local communities. A team from the World Bank, led by Vyjayanti Desai and Kimberly Johns, visited these villages to see the impact of the project.

The meeting at the Secretariat was attended by several senior officials. Among them were Deputy Secretary to the IT Department Bhavesh Mishra, T-Fiber MD Venu Prasad, and World Bank representatives Ishira Mehta, Arun Sharma, and Siew Sanz Ng.
