Telangana's economy in crisis under Congress rule: Kishan

Hyderabad: Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy, raised concerns about Telangana’s economic situation after ten months of Congress rule. He stated that the state’s economy has faced significant turmoil since the Congress party took power.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, he pointed out that while the Congress made big promises about improving Telangana under their leadership, they have failed to meet the expectations of the people.

Kishan Reddy highlighted several issues, including the government’s difficulty in even paying the rent for Gurukula schools. He mentioned that the state has not been able to settle payments to contractors, with dues amounting to 10 lakh. Additionally, the government is struggling to pay salaries to workers responsible for streetlight repairs.

He also criticized the Congress government for not fulfilling key promises. The Rs 2,500 welfare support for women hasn’t been implemented, and other promises, such as gold for marriages, scooties for college students, and increased pensions for widows, students, disabled individuals, and single women, remain unfulfilled. The promised unemployment allowances for youth and support for tenant farmers, who were assured Rs 15,000 for rent, have not materialized either.

Kishan Reddy further criticized the government for not delivering on promised support for Dalits and Backward Classes. He expressed concern that even one of the Congress’s guarantees has not been effectively implemented.

He also questioned the use of Rs 150 crore for cleaning the Musi River, saying the funds could have been used to address more urgent financial issues. He demanded transparency from the state government, asking for details on the debt accumulated during Congress’s rule, the interest paid on that debt, and the status of welfare programs previously run by the BRS.

Kishan Reddy expressed worries about the real estate market, warning that it could collapse if projects like Kaleshwaram continue without proper oversight. He mentioned that property registrations have stopped, which is affecting the construction industry.

The BJP is now calling for a detailed report, or white paper, to be released by the government. This report should cover the state’s financial status, including debts, government properties, and the progress (or lack thereof) on the six key promises made by the Congress.

Finally, he highlighted concerns about the Musi Riverfront Development Project (MRDP), saying that while the BJP supports the beautification of the Musi River, it must be done with proper planning, including the construction of a retaining wall. Kishan Reddy emphasized that protecting Telangana is a shared responsibility between the people and the BJP.
