Telangana Weather Update: Cold Wave Grips State
Telangana is experiencing its third cold wave of the winter season, with temperatures plummeting to single digits in many northern districts. In Hyderabad, the temperature dropped to as low as 11 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Weather experts have predicted that the cold wave will persist across the state until mid-January.
The coldest temperature in the state over the past 24 hours was recorded in Sirpur (U) in Kumuram Bheem district, where it dropped to 7.3 degrees Celsius. Other areas like Tiryani and Kohir also reported low temperatures of 8 degrees Celsius and 8.4 degrees Celsius, respectively. In Adilabad, minimum temperatures ranged between 8.9 degrees Celsius and 9.9 degrees Celsius.
Hyderabad has also been impacted by the chilly weather. The University of Hyderabad reported the city’s lowest temperature at 11 degrees Celsius. Other neighborhoods such as Moulali, Rajendranagar, and Gachibowli experienced minimum temperatures between 12 degrees Celsius and 13.3 degrees Celsius.
Despite the cold nights, Hyderabad recorded a maximum daytime temperature of 29.6 degrees Celsius, which is slightly above the seasonal average by 0.8 degrees Celsius. The average minimum temperature, however, was 15.1 degrees Celsius, 0.4 degrees Celsius below normal. Weather forecasts suggest that partly cloudy skies with haze will continue for the next week. Minimum temperatures are expected to range between 14 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius, while maximum temperatures may fluctuate between 28 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius until January 8.
The ongoing cold wave is being caused by northerly winds, which have led to below-normal temperatures across the state. Meteorologists predict that the current cold spell will persist until mid-January, with temperatures gradually warming in the latter half of the month. Early morning fog and haze have also been reported in several regions, reducing visibility.
Northern Telangana remains the hardest hit by the cold wave. Districts such as Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem, and Sangareddy have recorded some of the lowest temperatures in the state. For instance, locations like Bela, Chaprala, and Talamadugu in Adilabad district saw minimum temperatures ranging from 9 degrees Celsius to 10.3 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Sangareddy and Kamareddy districts reported lows between 10.2 degrees Celsius and 10.5 degrees Celsius.
In Hyderabad, temperature variations were observed across different areas. Serilingampally recorded a minimum temperature of 11 degrees Celsius, while Uppal reported 12.1 degrees Celsius. Slightly warmer conditions were noted in Kukatpally and Secunderabad, where the minimum temperature reached 16.6 degrees Celsius.
The state continues to brace for chilly conditions, with residents advised to stay warm and take precautions, especially during the early mornings and late evenings.
