Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Union Budget 2025 on Saturday. The Telangana government has requested financial assistance for major projects, including urban development, water management, and transportation. It has also emphasized the need for the Centre to honor commitments made under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act.

Key Funding Requests from Telangana

1. Infrastructure and Transportation
Telangana has asked for funding to support several key projects. These include the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR), the Musi River Revitalization Project, and the expansion of the Hyderabad Metro. A major proposal includes extending metro connectivity from Shamshabad Airport to other parts of the city to ease traffic congestion.

2. Water Management and Urban Development
The state has sought ₹14,000 crore in phased assistance for the Musi River revival initiative. Additionally, Telangana has requested funds to divert Godavari water to Greater Hyderabad. This project aims to ensure a clean and reliable water supply for the city’s growing population.

3. Road Network Expansion
To improve connectivity, the state has proposed the construction of radial roads linking Hyderabad to the RRR. This is expected to reduce traffic congestion and enhance transportation in the metropolitan area.

4. Concerns Over Central Grants
Telangana has raised concerns about reduced central allocations over the past two years. For instance, while the state received ₹13,179 crore in 2022-23, the estimated amount of ₹41,259 crore for 2023-24 fell short, with only ₹9,730 crore disbursed. For the ongoing 2024-25 fiscal year, the state projected ₹21,636 crore in central assistance but has received just ₹4,771 crore in the last nine months.

5. Request for Future Assistance
Considering these shortfalls, Telangana has proposed nearly ₹30,000 crore in grants for the next fiscal year. The state government has warned that if these funds are not sanctioned, it could face financial difficulties in implementing key projects and welfare programs.

Telangana’s expectations from the Union Budget 2025 reflect its focus on addressing infrastructure needs and ensuring sustainable development for its rapidly growing population.
