The Telangana government is running a scheme called the “Telangana Chenetha Abhaya Hasta Scheme” to support handloom workers. The Assistant Director of the Handloom and Textile Department, Govindayya, has announced that February 15 is the last date for handloom weavers, power loom workers, and other laborers in the district to enroll in the Telangana Netanna Savings Scheme.
This scheme is designed to help workers save money and provide them with financial security. It is open to workers from both cooperative and non-cooperative sectors. People involved in different handloom-related tasks such as dyeing, designing, warping, winding, and sizing can also apply.
To be eligible, workers must be at least 18 years old and should earn at least 50% of their income from handloom-related work. Under the scheme, each worker must deposit 8% of their monthly earnings into a savings account (RD-1) by the 15th of every month. The government will then contribute an extra 16% into another savings account (RD-2). However, workers cannot withdraw money from these accounts for at least 24 months.
All eligible workers must submit their completed applications to the office of the Assistant Director, Handloom & Textile Department, by February 15.
