The Telangana government has increased its budget for minority welfare for the 2025-26 financial year. The allocation now stands at ₹3,591 crore, which is ₹593 crore more than the ₹2,997.01 crore allocated in 2024-25. This increase shows the government’s commitment to supporting marginalized communities.
Focus on Youth Empowerment
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, while presenting the budget, highlighted the government’s dedication to the well-being of minorities. A major part of the funds—₹840 crore—has been set aside for the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam Scheme. This scheme aims to provide self-employment opportunities for young individuals from minority backgrounds, helping them become financially independent.
Integrated Residential Schools Initiative
To promote inclusivity in education, the government is taking steps to integrate the Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) schools with the newly established Young India Residential Schools (YIRS). Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, during a foundation stone-laying event in Kondurg last year, stressed the importance of bringing students together. He stated that separating students based on caste and religion creates division, and the goal is to ensure that children from all backgrounds study in a shared environment.
However, officials clarified that TMREIS schools will not be merged with YIRS. Instead, TMREIS schools that currently operate from rented buildings will be shifted to integrated school campuses. In these campuses, TMREIS students will have designated blocks while sharing common facilities such as libraries, playgrounds, and other resources with students from different communities.
Officials also assured that this integration will not affect schools built under the Multi-Sectoral Development Plan (MSDP) for TMREIS. The initiative aims to provide better facilities while ensuring that TMREIS schools maintain their unique identity.
