Heavy rains in Telangana have resulted in the loss of four lives. One of the victims was a four-year-old boy named Mithun, who was washed away in a nala. Rescue teams spent over four hours searching for his body in floodwaters in Pragati Nagar. The weather office predicts that heavy rains will continue on Wednesday.
In another incident, three individuals, including two women farm laborers, died due to lightning in the Chityal mandal of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. The victims were working in agricultural fields when the incident occurred. The injured individuals have been taken to a nearby hospital and are in critical condition. The deceased have been identified as Cheliveru Saritha, Neripati Mamata, and Guduru Rajeshwar Rao. The injured are Parlapally Bhadramma, Arepally Komuramma, Mydam Uma, and Kumar.
Mithun, the young boy who was washed away, lived in the NRI colony of Pragati Nagar. He fell into the nala while playing near his house. The Bachupally police, along with the Fire department and Disaster management teams, were able to locate his body.
The heavy rains have caused disruptions in normal life, with flooded streets in many towns. Educational institutions in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal, and Vikarabad districts have declared a holiday. The GHMC has deployed special teams to rescue people in low-lying areas where rainwater has entered their homes. Traffic police are also working to lift submerged vehicles in certain colonies.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), there has been very heavy rainfall in several areas. The highest rainfall was recorded in Gandhari mandal with 144.5 mm, followed by Serilingampally in Rangareddy with 140.8 mm, and Medchal with 138 mm.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains in several districts until Wednesday. These districts include Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, and Jangaon.
