Telangana High Court Urges Candidates to Submit Residence Certificates within One Week for Merit-Based Admission

The Telangana High Court in Hyderabad heard a batch of writ petitions regarding the validity of a rule and a government order related to admission into medical and dental colleges. The petitioners also requested to be considered as local candidates for admission into MBBS/BDS courses for the next academic year. They claimed to be permanent residents of Telangana.

One petitioner stated that she was born in Hyderabad and completed her schooling there up to class 10. Her parents, who are IPS officers, were transferred to Chennai in 2017 and 2021. Due to the closure of boarding schools in Hyderabad during the Covid pandemic, she had to continue her studies in Chennai and appeared for the NEET examination there.

However, the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences declared her ineligible for admission as a local candidate. After listening to both sides, the court ordered that if the petitioners provide a residence certificate issued by a competent authority of the state government within a week, they will be considered as local candidates for admission. The university will then evaluate their merit for admission to MBBS/BDS courses. The petitions were resolved based on this decision.
