Telangana Heatwave Worsens as Residents Prepare for Extended Extreme Temperatures

Telangana is currently facing an intense heatwave, with temperatures rising above 40°C in most parts of the state. According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), 28 out of 33 districts are experiencing extreme heat. The highest temperature recorded was 42°C in Bela, Adilabad. Other severely affected areas include Kothagudem in Bhadradri Kothagudem and Makthal in Narayanpet, both reaching 41.9°C.

The heatwave is not just affecting rural areas; cities are also experiencing extreme temperatures. In Hyderabad, Bandlaguda recorded 40.1°C, while Dundigal in Medchal-Malkajgiri saw 41.1°C. One of the hottest urban areas was Abdullapurmet in Rangareddy, which reached 41.4°C. Even in places with slightly lower temperatures, such as Jangaon and Hanumakonda, the mercury rose to 39.8°C, providing little relief.

As the heatwave continues, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for several districts, including Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, and Jagtial, for Monday, March 17. Authorities have advised people to take precautions, drink plenty of water, and avoid going out in the sun during peak hours.

Experts warn that the heatwave may persist, raising concerns about water shortages and health risks. With summer still ahead, Telangana could face one of its hottest seasons in recent years.
