Telangana Government Spends Rs. 54,280 Crore on Farmer Welfare in a Year

The government of Telangana has spent an impressive Rs. 54,280 crore on farmer welfare schemes in just the first year of its new term. These initiatives aim to boost agricultural development and improve the lives of farmers across the state.

One of the most notable measures was the waiver of crop loans up to Rs. 2 lakhs for farmers, an unprecedented move in India. Telangana also retained its top position as the leading state in paddy cultivation.

As part of the ongoing farmers’ festival in Mahabubnagar, a report was released highlighting the significant funds allocated to support rice farmers. The festival celebrates the success of public governance in the state.

Key Schemes for Farmers

Soon after taking office, the Congress government launched several farmer-focused schemes. Within just 27 days, Rs. 17,869 crore in crop loans was waived for 22.22 lakh farmers. Additionally, the free electricity scheme for agriculture continued without interruption, with Rs. 10,444 crore paid as a subsidy this year.

Under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, Rs. 7,625 crore was transferred directly to the bank accounts of 69.86 lakh farmers within three months. This assistance covered 1.57 crore acres, with Rs. 5,000 provided per acre for Yasangi (rabi) cultivation.

For crop loss protection, the crop insurance scheme was revamped, allocating Rs. 1,300 crore for premium payments. The Rythu Bima insurance scheme also provided Rs. 1,455 crore in premiums, ensuring a Rs. 5 lakh insurance payout to the families of deceased farmers.

Support for Paddy Farmers

During the last Yasangi season, the government procured grain worth Rs. 10,547 crore from nearly 9 lakh farmers, ensuring payments were made within three days. A bonus of Rs. 500 per quintal for fine grain was announced to encourage the cultivation of high-quality crops.

In the monsoon season, a record-breaking 66.77 lakh acres of paddy were cultivated, yielding an impressive 153 lakh tonnes of produce.

New Initiatives for Farmers

The government also introduced the Rythu Nestham scheme, which provides farmers with direct advice and guidance from agricultural officials. This initiative helps farmers stay informed about modern farming techniques and field-level conditions.

Grand Farmer's Festival in Mahabubnagar

To celebrate these achievements, the Telangana government is organizing a three-day farmer’s festival, called Rythu Padanga, in Mahabubnagar from November 28 to 30. Farmers from all districts of the state will participate in the event.

The festival will include programs to teach modern farming techniques, profitable methods, and crop management strategies. Over 150 stalls from 25 departments will be set up, featuring agricultural scientists, top-performing farmers, and universities specializing in agriculture, horticulture, and veterinary sciences.

This large-scale event underscores the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and advancing agricultural practices in Telangana.
