Hyderabad: IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu announced on Thursday that the State government’s goal is to make Telangana a one trillion-dollar economy in the near future and a three trillion-dollar economy by the next decade.

Speaking at the two-day Global AI Summit at HICC in Hyderabad, Sridhar Babu mentioned that the country is on the brink of a new era where Artificial Intelligence (AI) will change the way people live and dream. He highlighted that Telangana has always been a state focused on vision and progress.

The Minister revealed that the government is setting up an AI City on a 200-acre site near Hyderabad. This AI City will serve as an ecosystem for AI research, development, and applications. He acknowledged that it is an ambitious project, but expressed confidence that Telangana will become a global hub for AI innovation, establishing itself as a technological powerhouse.

In the meantime, Sridhar Babu explained that AI-driven companies can start their operations quickly by partnering with the World Trade Center (WTC) at Shamshabad. The WTC is offering 2 lakh square feet of world-class office space as a temporary measure. This initiative will speed up the establishment of AI companies and pave the way for their expansion into AI City once it is ready.

The Minister also emphasized that the government will implement strict measures to prevent the misuse of AI technologies, such as deepfakes and AI-driven misinformation, to protect individuals, institutions, and the democratic process.

Furthermore, Sridhar Babu stated that infrastructure alone is not enough to drive the level of innovation that the state aspires to achieve. The government plans to support the transformation of the AI-driven workforce, promote AI literacy, and engage the public. There will be a focus on ensuring accountability in AI deployment, combating AI-driven misinformation, and leveraging AI for sustainable development. The government will also seek the assistance of premier law institutions like NALSAR and ensure stringent data safety measures are in place.
