Telangana Government Transfers Dharani Operations to NIC to Prevent Data Leakages

Hyderabad: The State government has decided to transfer the operations of the Dharani land records system to the National Informatics Centre (NIC). This decision comes after concerns about information leaks during the previous government. An official order from the Revenue Department confirmed the change in technology partner for the Dharani system.

The current contract for maintaining Dharani with the vendor TerraCIS will end on November 30. Since 2020, TerraCIS has been responsible for managing the Integrated Land Records Management System (ILRMS). Starting from December 1, the NIC will take over the system’s operations and maintenance for the next three years. The government hopes that NIC’s experience in managing land records will ensure the smooth functioning of the Dharani portal.

Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy called this decision an important step to address ongoing issues with Dharani. In a statement, he blamed the previous government, led by the BRS regime, for the problems with the system. He accused them of handing over control of 1.56 crore acres of land to TerraCIS, a foreign-based company. He also pointed out that TerraCIS had previously failed in a similar project in Odisha. Reddy assured that this new arrangement with NIC would protect the land rights of 71 lakh farmers.
