Telangana government set to unveil new energy policy on January 9

The Telangana State government is set to unveil a new energy policy on January 9. This move aims to attract both domestic and foreign investments into the energy sector, signaling a major step forward for the state.

At an event near the Rajiv Gandhi statue at the Secretariat, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka handed over appointment letters to newly recruited Assistant Engineers of GENCO. Speaking at the event, he highlighted Telangana’s efforts to achieve surplus energy production and become a role model for the rest of the country. He criticized the previous government for failing to introduce an energy policy and expressed optimism about the new plan. “With the new energy policy, we aim to produce 22,448 MW of electricity by 2030. Additionally, we plan to generate 20,000 MW through green energy initiatives,” he shared.

The Deputy Chief Minister also emphasized the significant role of the energy sector in contributing to the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). He mentioned ongoing efforts to establish thermal power projects at Odisha’s Naini coal block. Addressing criticism from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), he asserted that the state government had disproved claims of power shortages and was successfully delivering uninterrupted, high-quality electricity across Telangana.
