The Telangana government has set a goal to increase the state’s forest cover from 24.05% to 33% as part of its 2025-26 budget. This aligns with the national forest policy. To support this effort, the Environment and Forest sector has been allocated Rs 1,023 crore. State Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced this during the State Assembly session on Wednesday.

To boost greenery and promote sustainability, the government has introduced the “Vajrotsavam Vanamahotsavam” initiative. Under this program, the state aims to plant 20 crore saplings. So far, 18.71 crore saplings have already been planted, making a significant impact on environmental conservation.

In addition to increasing green cover, the government is also working to protect wildlife. As part of this effort, people from two villages in the Kawal Tiger Reserve have been relocated to ensure the safety of endangered species and their natural habitats.

To promote eco-tourism, the state has launched safari services, trekking trails, boating at Somaseela, and caravan camping facilities. Looking ahead, the government plans to develop 18 eco-tourism hubs across Telangana. These initiatives aim to support environmental sustainability and wildlife conservation through eco-friendly practices and strict wildlife protection regulations.
