Telangana Farmers' Association calls for immediate water release

Telangana Farmers’ Association leaders have urged the state government to release water immediately to save crops drying up across 10 lakh acres in the state. The association’s State President, Pothineni Sudarshan Rao, and General Secretary, T. Sagar, made this demand, emphasizing the urgent need to support farmers.

According to them, as of March 5, ten irrigation projects in the state have a total water storage of 346.42 TMC (thousand million cubic feet). However, 150 TMC of this is dead storage, leaving only 196.42 TMC available. They stressed the need for immediate action to release this water and supply it to crop fields and tanks.

The association criticized the agriculture department for not responding to the crisis. Farmers are losing their investments as crops dry up, and cattle are grazing on the fields due to a lack of water. They warned that if water is not released immediately, the situation could worsen. Additionally, filling the tanks with water would help in improving groundwater levels.

The farmers’ leaders pointed out that water is available in several reservoirs, including Srisailam (73.53 TMC), Nagarjuna Sagar (161.59 TMC), Singur (22.48 TMC), Sriram Sagar (30.82 TMC), LMD (11.63 TMC), and Yellampalli (12.89 TMC). They urged the government to take quick action to prevent further damage to crops and support the farming community.
