540 Indians Rescued from Cyber Scam in Myanmar, Telangana Launches Probe
A major rescue operation has freed 540 Indians trapped in cyber scam centers in Myawaddy, Myanmar. Many of them were lured with fake job offers and were forced into illegal online activities. Among the rescued, 24 people are from Telangana. Now, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) is investigating the fraudulent recruitment agencies responsible for their trafficking.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that these individuals had been held captive and forced to commit cyber fraud. They were brought back to India in two groups—283 on March 10 and 257 on March 11. Of the 24 Telangana victims, 14 arrived in Hyderabad on March 11, and the rest are expected on March 12.
Recruitment Scam Under Investigation
Authorities believe that fake recruitment agencies and middlemen tricked victims into traveling abroad for high-paying IT jobs. Instead, they were trapped and exploited. The TGCSB has vowed to identify and take action against those responsible.
Officials have warned job seekers to be cautious when applying for jobs abroad and to verify recruitment agencies before accepting any offers.
Cyber Fraud & Human Trafficking on the Rise
The trafficking of Indians to scam centers in Southeast Asia is becoming a serious issue. Many victims are promised well-paying jobs in Myanmar, Thailand, and Cambodia, only to be forced into financial fraud operations.
This recent rescue highlights the urgent need for stronger international cooperation and stricter regulations to combat cybercrime and human trafficking. Authorities in Telangana are working with central agencies to help the victims reintegrate safely and to prevent such incidents in the future.
