Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Urges Southern States to Unite Against Delimitation Injustice

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has called on southern states to unite against what he believes is an unfair delimitation process. He made this appeal during the Fair Delimitation Joint Action Committee (JAC) meeting. CM Reddy stressed that southern states play a major role in job creation, economic growth, and welfare programs in India.

Reddy argued that financial allocations from the central government are not fair. He pointed out that states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh receive much more money compared to the taxes they pay. In contrast, southern states receive significantly less. For example, he said Karnataka gets only 26 paise per tax rupee, Tamil Nadu 16 paise, and Telangana 42 paise.

The Chief Minister insisted that delimitation should not be based only on population numbers. He expressed concerns that northern states, such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar, could dominate decision-making if the process is not handled fairly.

Reddy also mentioned that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to implement delimitation in 2026, he should follow the example of leaders like Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He suggested that women’s reservation and other affirmative actions should be applied at the state level through a localized delimitation process.

Currently, out of 534 parliamentary seats, only 130 are assigned to southern states, making up just 24 percent. Reddy demanded that this be increased to 33 percent to better reflect the contributions of the southern states to India’s development.
