The Supreme Court has granted activist Teesta Setalvad regular bail in a case involving alleged fabrication of documents related to the 2002 post-Godhra riot cases. The court criticized the Gujarat High Court’s decision to deny her bail, calling it “perverse” and “contradictory”.
A three-judge bench consisting of Justices B R Gavai, A S Bopanna, and Dipankar Datta overturned the high court’s order on July 1. They stated that custodial interrogation of Setalvad was unnecessary since the charge sheet has already been filed and most of the evidence is in the form of documents.
