Warangal: MLC Election Preparations in Full Swing
With the election for the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers Council seat approaching, candidates are gearing up for the race. The term of the current MLC, Alugubelli Narsi Reddy, an Independent, ends on March 29. The Election Commission is expected to announce the notification in late February, with polling likely to be held in the second week of March.
Among the major political parties, the BJP has already named its candidate, former PRTU leader Puli Sarotham Reddy. However, the Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) are yet to announce their choices.
Meanwhile, Narsi Reddy, who won the 2019 election with support from Left Parties, is seeking reelection. Another notable candidate, Poola Ravinder, who won the MLC seat in 2013, is also preparing to contest. Ravinder, who was backed by the BRS in the last elections, is now planning to run with the support of the JACTO teachers’ union, as the BRS has not yet disclosed its strategy.
Interestingly, educationist and former KUDA chairman Sangamreddy Sunder Raj Yadav has entered the fray as an Independent candidate, despite his ties with the BRS. Sunder Raj Yadav, a popular figure among backward classes, has also gained the backing of Graduates MLC Teenamar Mallanna.
A former teachers’ leader noted that the situation will become clearer once the BRS and Congress reveal their strategies—whether they will support specific candidates or field their own nominees. In the meantime, candidates have already begun their campaigns, aiming to personally reach out to the nearly 25,000 voters spread across Warangal, Khammam, and Nalgonda districts.
Sunder Raj Yadav, in particular, has ambitious plans to boost his campaign. He is organizing a massive public meeting called “BC Yuddha Bheri” at the Arts and Science College Grounds in Hanumakonda on February 2. “We plan to gather one lakh BCs at the meeting, including several prominent BC leaders,” Yadav said.
As the election date nears, the competition among candidates is expected to intensify, with all eyes on the strategies of the major political parties.
