Tank Bund Area Set to Become a World-Class Tourist Destination

Hyderabad: A new world-class tourism hub is set to be developed at the famous Tank Bund in Hyderabad. The project will include a Skywalk that connects Tank Bund, Necklace Road, Sanjeevaiah Park, and the Telangana Martyrs Memorial. This will help to make the area one of the top tourist destinations in the city.

In addition, the state government has plans to create a Buddhist Tourist Circuit. This circuit will connect all the Buddhist spiritual centers across the state.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is particularly interested in establishing an International Buddha Museum at Buddhavanam in Nagarjuna Sagar. He has instructed officials to create proposals for this museum, which is expected to attract Buddhists from around the world. The plan includes installing a Buddha statue in Hussain Sagar and linking this site with other historic Buddhist sites like Phanigiri, Nelakondapally, and Nagarjunasagar, forming a single tourism circuit.

The state government has already submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Central government for the development of Buddhavanam under the Swadeshi Darshan 2.0 scheme. The proposal includes setting up a Buddhist digital museum, an exhibition space, and digital archives, alongside the International Buddha Museum.

As part of the new Tourism Policy, the government plans to invest Rs 25 crore to develop Buddhavanam as both a tourism and spiritual destination. Additionally, the beauty of Nagarjuna Sagar Dam will be highlighted, with Buddhavanam being developed nearby as an international Buddhist temple.

To improve road connectivity, a four-lane road will be constructed from Hyderabad to Nagarjuna Sagar. The Chief Minister has instructed the Roads & Buildings (R&B) department to prepare proposals for this road immediately.

The famous Buddha statue in Hussain Sagar, Hyderabad, will also be included in the Buddhist tourism circuit. The Chief Minister has suggested creating a circular Skywalk that connects Tank Bund, Telangana Amarula Jyoti, Necklace Road, and Sanjeevayya Park. This area will be promoted as a world-class tourism hub, with experienced consultants being hired to design the project.

Finally, the roads around the historic Golconda Fort have become too narrow. The Chief Minister has decided to widen these roads, and officials have been asked to remove any encroachments. The residents and shopkeepers in the area will be provided with better rehabilitation options.
